CASA OPINION

As beautiful as it is impressive, the Ohana PKC-150MO is a lovely surprise!

Its pineapple-shaped body, crafted from laminated mango wood, is both aesthetically pleasing and sonically impressive. The notes are full-bodied, resonate for a long time and retain all their clarity. It’s an instrument with real character – it’s not just a pretty face!

The playability is just as impressive. With a 35 mm nut width, the neck is particularly comfortable, offering immediate playing comfort.

The build quality is excellent, the finish is meticulous, and the instrument is magnificent. You can tell it’s been thoughtfully designed.

Special mention must go to the Grover tuners: they’re precise, reliable and hold their tuning perfectly. Even when the strumming gets really intense, nothing budges! And indeed, this little Ohana copes very well with energetic playing. The sound never gets muddled, retains its presence and maintains excellent definition, even when pushed to the limit.

These solid Hawaiian koa models are harmonically rich, with plenty of body and consistency in the sound, as well as plenty of brilliance and, at times, chime-like resonance. This makes them a versatile instrument, rooted in tradition yet resolutely modern.

Previously reserved for the Japanese market, we received these models in Europe under the name Kiwaya and the designation “eco series.” In order to harmonize their offering, they have now decided to distribute the “eco series” in France and Europe under the name “Famous.”  Apart from the label, nothing has changed—it's still a Kiwaya made in Japan!  The instrument is made of laminated Hawaiian Koa, and offers exceptional acoustic performance with impressive volume, extremely well balanced. The neck profile is flat and easy to grip. The Arajuez strings installed on top are soft, offering a pleasant touch and a warm, mellow tone.  Kiwaya has a long history as a ukulele manufacturer, which makes this Eco series different from and above other ukuleles in the same price range.

The sound offers warm mids, deep lows and crystal clear highs and allows for greater versatility in playing, regardless of style or genre. What is also striking is the dynamic range of this instrument, the notes are clear and full even at very low volumes, which is perfect for fingerstyle playing.  Note that the series has evolved and now offers a full headstock with very reliable Gotoh Planetary tuners, as on the UT3K or UT200 models, which is more convenient to install the strings in my opinion.

Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa!  But now, the UC200 Concert is finally arriving in our catalogue, and it has everything to make you love it: a more compact format, top-notch playability, and above all, that brilliant, warm and unique sound that you recognise from the very first notes. Produced in an extremely limited series, this Neri concert model is distinguished by its acacia construction, a wood that produces a tone that is warm, mellow and remarkably balanced. The positioning of the soundholes on the top of the body promotes excellent projection and a very even sound distribution. Production of Koaloha ukuleles began in 1995, handcrafted, one by one, in Honolulu, and although they have undergone improvements over time, they still sound with the same signature: a tone rich in harmony, warmth and luminosity. Perfectly balanced, these instruments are ideal for all types of music. From finger picking to strumming, from classical to jazz, the Hawaiian Koa series sounds wonderful. In the hands, it's very pleasant, extremely light and well balanced. The build quality is obvious, and you know you're playing a top-quality ukulele. The overall impression is one of absolute classicism, with a magnificent 5-point crown-shaped headstock and a sublime rosette deliciously named "Musubi" (snack popular in Hawaii). You'll also benefit from the "better than the weather" warranty, which allows you to have your ukulele repaired without any time limit.

Pono MGC-K Solid Mango Concert Ukulele PARTICULAR SIGNS  Concert  Solid mango top   Solid mango back & sides  Mahogany neck   Merbau bridge & fingerboard  Ko'olau Alohi All Plain strings  Bone nut & saddle  Grover open gear tuners  Nut width : 35mm  Satin finish   Scale length : 381mm / 20 frets  Made in Indonesia CASA OPINION Pono is a legendary brand that has played a major role in the rise of the ukulele over the years. Their instruments are made in Indonesia by the Ko'olau parent company, based in Hawaii. Their instruments are arguably in the upper mid-range, all made of solid wood and crafted to Ko'olau's exacting standards. This series is made from solid mango wood, increasingly prized both for its appearance and for the richness of its sound. The overall color is highly contrasting, with little variation from model to model. The satin finish offers a pleasantly soft, silky feel; for those who prefer a gloss finish, the same model is available on the site in gloss finish under the reference: MGCD.  The tone is lively and dynamic, both volume and sustain are excellent, and the sound is projected with a minimum of effort, all due to the resonance created by the lightweight construction. A very precise instrument, neither bright nor dark, the sound is perfectly versatile and lends itself to all playing styles.
