It is true that the massive mango tree is excentric. There is also something modern about these ukuleles, the geometric and cubic shapes on the fingerboard and on the logo are certainly part of it. However, once in hand the sound is smooth and creamy, they sing traditionally well and are easy to learn thanks to an exceptional playability. The Rebel Ukulele brings a particular care to the manufacturing, and all the models that we received are always extremely well finished. The size of the body is bigger than a standard tenor and offers more volume, resonance and sustain, which is quite logical.  When you play this Grand Tenor, what is striking is the thinness of the neck and the flat profile, and with its width of 38mm, we have rarely played on a ukulele so pleasant and easy.  The sound is obviously powerful, round, and with a huge sustain, but it keeps a perfect balance of frequencies and each string and each fret will offer you a delicious harmony  For its touch, for its sound, for its beauty, it's an instrument that is worth every single euro invested, it's an instrument that we keep, and that gives us the means to surpass ourselves.

For this Alchemist model, Rebel's luthiers studied how woods and bracing patterns affect sound, and proceeded by trial and error, over and over again, just as a chef looks for a new taste in every dish he prepares. The process of making this ukulele was all about reaching the invisible - the Rebel sound. The image of "alchemists" slowly dawned on them, as they played an important role in the development of science in the early modern era, slowly moving the world forward, and were, in a way, the very first group of "rebels" the world had ever known. "It's a tribute to those who came before us. Those who enriched human knowledge, enabling us to make new discoveries. That's why the official name of this model is Alchemist". The aim is clearly stated: to present instruments with a more vintage look and which stand out from their modern models with which they have revolutionized the ukulele market in recent years. However, the DNA of the manufacturer is well and truly there, and we find with delight, an excellent substain, a rich sound in volume with an incredible dynamic. A new fan-shaped baffle equips this series, which brings out the midrange frequencies full of harmonies, and it should also be noted that they are equipped with Gotoh UPT mechanics, which are extremely precise.  The Singer RT1M-TS is made entirely of solid mahogany, with a subtle tobacco sunburst finish that offers a nice brown/red tone gradation. It's the one in the series with the least amount of frills, but the essentials are there. We have the natural warmth of mahogany but also lightness and shine. It develops quite a lot of volume when you strum the strings with a lot of attack but also knows how to be reactive and dynamic in a very soft play. It is versatile and comfortable in all registers.
