The woods selected are remarkable, and the contrasts in the back are magnificent. The value for money is breathtaking, and this series seems to be spared the minor cosmetic and finishing flaws sometimes found on these Chinese-made ukuleles. Previously reserved for the Japanese market, we received these models in Europe under the name Kiwaya and the designation “eco series.” In order to harmonize their offering, they have now decided to distribute the “eco series” in France and Europe under the name “Famous.”  Apart from the label, nothing has changed—it's still a Kiwaya made in Japan!  The instrument is made of laminated Hawaiian Koa, and offers exceptional acoustic performance with impressive volume, extremely well balanced. The neck profile is flat and easy to grip. The Arajuez strings installed on top are soft, offering a pleasant touch and a warm, mellow tone.  Kiwaya has a long history as a ukulele manufacturer, which makes this Eco series different from and above other ukuleles in the same price range.

These are the oldest trees in existence today, and Ohana has been working with responsible local growers since 2011 to source materials for their Redwood Limited Edition series. Redwood has long been used to make acoustic instruments. It has a warm, rich tone that tends to project a little more than cedar. The combination with rosewood is particularly pleasing to the ear, providing warmth and substance, and from an aesthetic point of view the two woods are a magnificent color combination.
