Mahogany has been used to make ukuleles for over a century. It offers warm, mellow tones, and may not be suitable when you want a bright, sharp sound, but so beautiful in "jazzy" tones. These ukuleles are made in Java, Indonesia, and benefit from the expertise of the Ko'olau/Pono workshops, true pioneers of the ukulele in Hawaii. The solid mango wood used has a different appearance to that of the standard version, with an exotic look and variations in the wood grain that are reminiscent of a multitude of tiny caterpillars criss-crossing each other, which is very pleasing to admire. The warm, mellow mango tone is also very clear and precise, and the high notes are magnificently bright. Only a handful have arrived, so don't miss the chance to discover these new models.

A beautiful satin finish, rosewood fingerboard, NuBone synthetic bone nut & saddle... We checked the price several times, as it seems unbelievable given the quality of this instrument! These solid Hawaiian koa models are harmonically rich, with plenty of body and consistency in the sound, as well as plenty of brilliance and, at times, chime-like resonance. This makes them a versatile instrument, rooted in tradition yet resolutely modern.

The sound offers warm mids, deep lows and crystal clear highs and allows for greater versatility in playing, regardless of style or genre. What is also striking is the dynamic range of this instrument, the notes are clear and full even at very low volumes, which is perfect for fingerstyle playing.  Note that the series has evolved and now offers a full headstock with very reliable Gotoh Planetary tuners, as on the UT3K or UT200 models, which is more convenient to install the strings in my opinion.

The solid spruce top tempered by the laminated mahogany back and sides creates a sound that is not only bright and punchy, but also rounded with warmth.  A flat profile neck, compensated saddle for accurate intonation, fluorocarbon strings and a deluxe bag. The Iris is at least as good as the famous premium model from which it was loosely based.
